Bruck shines: Awarded the most beautiful public green in Pinzgau!

On October 4, 2025, the “Flower Decorations and Quality of Life” competition was celebrated with much enthusiasm in Salzburg. As part of this event, the community of Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse was named the most beautiful public green in Pinzgau. The mayor of Bruck, Barbara Huber, was visibly proud of this recognition, which pleased not only the community but also the citizens.

The award is a symbol of the commitment of the community and the volunteers who tirelessly maintain flowers, monuments, green spaces and memorials. The municipality attaches great importance to the design and preservation of its public spaces in order to increase the quality of life of its residents. “There is something to be said,” emphasized Huber in her speech, “and the citizens’ trust in us is extremely important to us.”

The criteria for participation

The competition was organized by the Salzburg gardeners and vegetable growers and supported by the state of Salzburg. The participation of numerous communities and their residents shows the broad interest in beautifying public spaces, traffic islands as well as gardens, houses, balconies and terraces. The selection of the winners was based on criteria such as the lushness of the flower boxes, the diversity of the plants and the creation of habitats for insects and birds. Salzburg gardener reported on a successful award ceremony that took place on September 22nd in the Bachschmiede in Wals.

Ecological importance of green spaces

Maintaining public green spaces is not just a visual matter. These areas provide habitat for plants and animals and contribute significantly to the ecological health of communities. They act as dust and exhaust filters and improve the local climate, which is extremely important for the well-being of the population. According to the State Office for the Environment It is crucial that these areas are maintained sustainably.

The understanding and appreciation for public green spaces could be further promoted through training courses and practical days for municipal employees. In this way, the population's awareness of the importance of green spaces is increased. “A good hand” in caring for public facilities can help promote biodiversity and minimize the negative impact of neophytes.

The result of the competition is a nice incentive for all communities that want to take part in the competition. In the future, the maintenance and design of public spaces in Bruck and beyond will continue to focus on ecological concerns and contribute to increasing the quality of life in the communities.
