A day of gratitude: Volunteers full of heart in the spotlight!

On September 21st, World Day of Gratitude, numerous people gathered at the Schloss Ritzen Museum in Saalfelden to commemorate the valuable work of volunteers and full-time employees in social and health care institutions. State Parliament member Barbara Thöny invited people to this festive event to thank those who work tirelessly for the well-being of others. MyDistrict reports that Thöny emphasized how important it is to show appreciation for these dedicated helpers. She made it clear that gratitude should not only be present on a certain day of the year, but throughout the year.

In her speech, Thöny emphasized that the commitment of many people to the community is a gift that should be respected. In these fast-moving times, selflessness is often overlooked, and that is precisely why World Day of Gratitude is a wonderful opportunity to pause and thank those who often work in silence.

A creative thank you

The dialect author Gerlinde Allmayer provided cheerful and thoughtful moments during the event with her texts. She presented her “Gratitude Calculation,” which creatively presented gratitude as a kind of mathematical equation—not with numbers, but with the deep emotions that many people feel when they care for others. Allmayer's words make it clear that every act of gratitude and giving has a value that goes beyond the material.

Volunteering is often referred to as the heart of society and has now become an indispensable part of our community. Loud Health Forum Volunteer work expresses lived solidarity and meets the challenges of everyday life with human warmth. Various well-known personalities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of volunteering. “Two hands – one for yourself, one for the others” Audrey Hepburn once said, summing up how important giving is in our society.

The engagement numbers

The importance of volunteering is not just limited to individual stories, but is also reflected in statistics. Statista shows that around 16.9 million people will be active on a voluntary basis in Germany in 2025, with the participation rate in organized volunteer work being 27.5%. There are numerous opportunities for involvement, be it in sports clubs, with the volunteer fire department or in social projects. Young people, often under the age of 27, also show great interest in voluntary services, be it as part of a voluntary social year or a federal social service.

It can therefore be said that volunteering is not only essential for the common good, but also helps communities develop and grow. In a world that is often hectic, World Day of Gratitude reminds us that small selfless acts can make a big difference.
