New Kapfgarten in Feldkirch: Green oasis for hot summer days!

A lot is happening in Feldkirch: The city has launched a new, attractive retreat with the “Kapfgarten Feldkirch” project. This will arise in the Kapfschlucht and should not only invite you to relax, but also make an important contribution to adapting to climate change. Where used to be only part of a flood protection project, an approximately 500 m² area is now created, which is intended to offer a high quality of stay. A sustainable redesign with trees, benches and water -permeable paths is in the foreground. This "cool place" could ensure a welcome change, especially in hot summer months, according to meinzirk.at.

An important aspect of the design is that the area is not sealed. This will not only invite the area to relax, but also remain ecologically valuable. The support of the federal program is clear! Invest together with the clear! Region Vorderland-Feldkirch contributes to the implementation of this project. The start of construction is scheduled for August, completion is expected at the end of 2025.

flood protection for Feldkirch

Not only the Kapfgarten makes headlines in Feldkirch, the flood protection project also has a high priority. The aim of the “Flood Protection City of Feldkirch” project is to ensure the safety of the old town and the population in a hundred -year flood. For this purpose, the Ill-Walgau Water Association and the city of Feldkirch work closely to take the necessary measures that offer both protection and relaxation.

A main focus is on the expansion of the Kapf Gorge, where the Ill river profile is widened by up to eight meters. This does not require minor interventions: the Kapfstraße and the Lower Ardetzenbergstrasse are removed at about 100 meters, and rock material is removed at the narrowest point. At the same time, the new road tour is made possible by a gallery work to guide the traffic safely through the gorge. A separate track for pedestrians and cyclists ensures additional security.

new construction of the Montfort Bridge

Another crucial point in flood protection is the construction of the Montfort Bridge. This is not only higher, but also wider so that pedestrians and cyclists find enough space. In order to maintain the flow of traffic during the construction work, a detour of the vehicle traffic is planned via a makeshift bridge. The construction work is expected to continue around 24 million euros by 2026, whereby the federal government, the state and the Wasserverband Ill-Walgau, each, 40% or 20% Wasserverbandill-walgau.at. In summary, it can be said: Feldkirch has proven a good hand with both projects - the Kapfgarten and flood protection. The measures show that you take environmental and climate driving seriously and at the same time have a livable urban design in mind. Feldkirch not only becomes safer, but also more attractive for all citizens: inside and visitors: inside.
