Thalia takes over Das Buch” in the exhibition park: reading joy for Vorarlberg!
The book retail landscape in Vorarlberg has an exciting new addition: Thalia is taking over the “Das Buch” bookstore in the Dornbirn trade fair park from Russmedia. This bookstore is considered the address with the highest sales in the region and is now part of the Thalia family. Russmedia, a renowned media and technology company, has decided to no longer include “The Book” in its core business, which brings with it an interesting development. From October 1st, the bookstore will open under the Thalia umbrella, where all employees will be taken over, including the previous manager Anita Figo.
Thalia, which already has a location in Bürs, sees Dornbirn as an opportunity to build on tried and tested traditions and bring in a breath of fresh air. The exhibition park will develop into a new center for books, culture and inspiration, as Nicole Schedler, the managing director of the exhibition park, positively notes. The initiative aims to establish the bookstore as a social meeting place and promote reading culture in the region.
Impulses for the future
Thalia has big plans in a changing market policy situation. In times of global uncertainty and growing challenges such as skills shortages and inflation, the demand for creative solutions is higher than ever. The book trade faces four key challenges resulting from consumer sentiment, which is currently not particularly optimistic. These include, among other things, customers' increasing demands for a combination of stationary retail and online shopping.
Thalia is pursuing ambitious goals, including doubling the number of customers and halving the number of non-readers. To achieve this, the bookseller plans to use social media effectively and focus more on direct communication with readers. Events, cafés and an inspiring shopping atmosphere should provide further incentive to visit the bookstore and deal with books.
A step in the right direction
The takeover of “Das Buch” is part of a comprehensive strategy that also takes developments in the digital world into account. Thalia is focusing on broadly expanding its product range and offering its own brands and toys in order to reduce inhibitions and encourage more people to read. The company is also committed to promoting reading, especially among the younger generation. Bookstores are increasingly networking with schools, daycare centers and libraries to offer joint events.
The positive response from both Thalia and Russmedia shows that this partnership is responding to the needs of the market. “The book” will therefore not disappear, but will receive new impetus to meet the challenges of the book market. This also includes increased cooperation in the area of reading promotion in order to actively support the reading culture and get more people excited about books in the future.
This development shows that the book trade remains an important part of our culture even in turbulent times and that innovative approaches are necessary to attract the readers of tomorrow. Thalia is ready to face these challenges and lives by the idea of making the bookstore a lively meeting place.
