New paths for young people: PTS Tamsweg starts the 2025/26 school year!
On September 8, 2025, the Polytechnic School (PTS) in Tamsweg starts the new school year 2025/2026. With around 35 students and 11 dedicated teachers, PTS Tamsweg is one of a total of 15 polytechnic schools in Salzburg. These schools are considered true “training specialists” in the school system and are an important link between schools and the regional economy.
The main goal of the PTS is to get young people ready for apprenticeships in just one year. The focus is on sound career orientation as well as solid basic professional training in theory and practice. Students can acquire applicable knowledge in modern workshops, which are constantly being modernized to provide the best conditions for learning. The PTS Tamsweg is supported by the “Partnership Polytechnic and Business” association, whose chairwoman Christina Moser is committed to promoting cooperation with business.
Career orientation and individual support
The importance of the PTS is underlined not least by State Education Councilor Daniela Gutschi. She emphasizes that polytechnic schools play a central role in the professional preparation of young people. Not only are they helped to choose a career, but they are also given the opportunity to discover and promote their individual interests and talents. The time at school is used to gain practical experience and to orientate yourself in company explorations.
In the first part of the school year there is an orientation phase that aims to awaken and consolidate the students' interests. In addition, the young people can choose from various specialist areas that correspond to the major professional fields in business. These include areas such as metal, electrical, construction, wood, trade and office as well as health, beauty, social and tourism. Special disciplines such as mechatronics can also be set up to address regional business needs.
A backbone for the economy
PTS Tamsweg is not only a training center, but also an important partner for the economy. Wolfgang Pfeifenberger, mayor of Tamsweg and chairman of the WKS Tamsweg district office, emphasizes the close cooperation with the Lungau district office of the Chamber of Commerce. This cooperation not only ensures the relevance of the training content, but also ensures that graduates are optimally prepared for the job market.
As my region reports, the PTS is an ideal solution for young people aged 14 to 15 who want to lay a solid foundation for their professional future after completing compulsory schooling. In this context, additional qualifications such as the ICDL or the business driver's license can also be offered.
For many students, three “yes” to polytechnic school: “Yes to practice!”, “Yes to choosing a career!” and “Yes to the future!” – that could be the motto of PTS Tamsweg. The school builds bridges between general school education and professional practice and thereby contributes significantly to equal opportunities and educational quality.
A clear structure and individual support make the polytechnic school a valuable educational institution. It helps to shape the next generation of skilled workers in Austria. After all, it is important to discover and develop the talents of tomorrow so that the economy can continue to rely on a strong workforce.
You can count on the polytechnic schools - this is where the course is set for the professional future of young people.
