Honorable animal welfare awards: Anita Reicher and Pixy” in the spotlight
The annual World Animal Protection Day took place on October 4, 2025, and Fressnapf Austria didn't take long to do so. The coveted “Animally Committed” awards were presented for the twelfth time, an award dedicated to committed animal rights activists from all federal states. The initiative is committed to the welfare of animals and the people who support it. This year, the winners were able to look forward to a total of 45,000 euros in awards, including the Golden Fressnapf for outstanding animal welfare projects.
Particular attention was paid to the impressive Anita Reicher from Burgenland, who was honored for her tireless efforts in the fight against animal suffering. She organizes castration campaigns for stray cats and takes care of around 150 homeless animals every year. Their work has a huge impact on the lives of animals and their environment. As part of the “Animally Committed” award, she received a generous donation of 5,000 euros, which will certainly flow into her charitable projects. Fressnapf managing director Hermann Aigner explains: “The relationship between humans and animals is invaluable.”
“Pet of the Year”
Another award that received a lot of attention was the title of Pet of the Year. This year “Pixy”, a particularly adorable therapy dog from Vorarlberg, was chosen. Pixy's story is as inspiring as it is heartwarming. After a difficult childhood in Romania, where she contracted parvovirus, she found a loving home in Vorarlberg when she was just four months old. Today she is a trained therapy support dog and even accompanies her owner to everyday school life. For her award, Pixy also received pet food worth 1,500 euros.
The jury for the award was made up of experts in the field of animal protection and media and was spoiled for choice. Numerous nominations were submitted until June 6, 2025, and it was clear that the decision was not an easy one. But the pleasing result shows once again how important animal protection and commitment to living beings are in our society.
Fressnapf Austria's “Animally Engaged” initiative has already invested over two million euros in animal protection projects since 2014, which shows that not only words but also actions count. This not only places great emphasis on animal protection, but also creates broad support for many local projects that draw attention to the need for animal protection.
