Belgium's tourism students discover Bad Hofgastein: an experience of cultures!

An exciting week was recently dedicated to international exchange for the students of the Ter Duinen tourism school in Koksijde, Belgium. From September 28th to October 4th, 2025, a group of 18 young people and their two teachers took part in the Erasmus+ program at the Bad Hofgastein Tourism School. This initiative not only promoted intercultural understanding, but also learning about sustainable tourism in Austria. How meinkreis.at reports, the program was all about culinary workshops, cultural excursions and making valuable international friends.

Right at the beginning of their week in Bad Hofgastein, the participants were treated to an exciting workshop in which game dishes and pastries were prepared by their Austrian peers, the students of Master Class 2 and Ski Tourism School 5. Such practical experiences are part of the Erasmus+ program, which promotes international cooperation in education. A highlight was the trip to Bad Gastein, where the students visited the Gastein Museum and got an impression of local tourism on a tour of the Hotel Straubinger and the Gastein mountain railways.

Culinary journey of discovery and cultural highlights

In addition to the culinary development, interesting visits were also on the program. A meeting with sommelier Alexander Koblinger and top chef Andreas Döllerer in the wine shop and restaurant Döllerer in Golling made the hearts of connoisseurs beat faster. Another highlight was the exclusive tour and tasting at the Guglhof distillery in Hallein. Here the young people were able to experience the creative and craft side of food production up close.

A visit to the Scharfetter businesses, where a new project on the Schlossalm was announced and a delicious lunch with boiled beef from our own farm was served, rounded off the week. A city tour of Salzburg, which was conducted in Flemish, was also a must. The visitors also received insights into the Arthotel and the Blaue Gans restaurant and were able to discover the culture of Mozart's city.

A program full of possibilities

Erasmus+ is a European Union program that aims to promote and network education, training and youth in Europe. In addition to the Bad Hofgastein Tourism School, the program is also implemented by four national agencies in Germany, which help to make the opportunities and possibilities of the program available in an understandable and service-oriented manner erasmusplus.de. This is done with many years of expertise in supporting EU educational cooperation and ensures a wide variety of funding opportunities and actions within the program erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu.

Participation in the Erasmus+ program is not only an important step for tourism training, but also a valuable opportunity to make long-term contacts and friends from all over Europe. It remains to be hoped that such initiatives will take place again soon and that many more students will have the chance to enjoy a European exchange.
