230 new apprentices in the Kirchdorf district: training on the rise!

There's a lot going on again in the Kirchdorf district, because in August and September, the classic months for starting apprenticeship training, 230 young people started their professional careers in a training company. Despite this pleasing number, it is slightly below the previous year's figure, with a decrease of seven apprentices. A total of 822 young people are currently undergoing apprenticeship training in the district meinkreis.at reported.

While dual training, which combines theoretical learning with practical training, is very popular in Austria, a current analysis shows that it is important to meet the requirements. The companies currently have 145 open apprenticeship positions with 56 apprenticeship seekers available. A very clear indicator that apprenticeship training is urgently needed in the region is the ability of training companies to take on around 330 to 350 apprentices per training year.

Teaching is becoming more demanding

Apprenticeship is no longer seen as a stopgap, but is now seen as a demanding educational path. Crucial skills such as basic knowledge, social skills and responsible behavior are required. The duration of the apprenticeship varies between two and four years, on average it is three years and ends with the final apprenticeship examination. According to the Vocational Training Act (BAG), it is important that both apprentices and training companies know their rights and obligations. This includes, for example, signing the apprenticeship contract, which records personal data and the duration of the apprenticeship. Particularly for those under 18, a parent's signature must also be present oegb.at emphasized.

The responsibilities of the training companies are clearly defined: They must train in accordance with the official training plans and may not require any tasks that are not related to the respective profession. They are also obliged to ensure health protection and to grant apprentices permission to attend vocational school. Conversely, apprentices have a duty to make serious efforts to develop their knowledge and skills and to attend vocational school regularly.

The future in sight

There are around 140 apprenticeships available in the Kirchdorf district for young people who will turn 15 next year. This is of great importance not only for the young people themselves, but also for the quality of life in the region. Career experience days, which will take place on November 7th and 8th, 2025 in the Kirchdorf town hall, offer an excellent opportunity to try out different careers and find out more about the portfolio of regional training companies.

There is also comprehensive support for apprentices if they have problems, with the trade union and the Chamber of Labor being valuable contact points. In addition, free coaching offers are provided at the apprenticeship office, such as the information brochures on the website bmwet.gv.at prove.

The outlook for apprenticeship training in the Kirchdorf district shows not only the challenges, but also the great opportunities that exist for young people and companies in the region. Apprenticeship training remains an important pillar for the development of a stable professional future in Austria.
