On Monday, August 11, 2025, the city of Villach will once again be the scene of one of the most traditional events of the year: the Laurentiusmarkt. The market takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and attracts numerous visitors every year who come from near and far to enjoy the hustle and bustle. The Laurentiusmarkt is the oldest commercial event in Carinthia, with roots dating back to 1225, when the right to hold the market was granted to Villach by the Bamberg bishops. The market stretches from Ringmauergasse across Draulände to Kaiser-Josef-Platz and Hauptplatz. Market representative, city councilor Christian Pober, is enthusiastic about the lively participation and the wide variety of offers. Visitors can look forward to a wide range of goods, including enamel pots, traditional craft products such as wooden hay chena, as well as a selection of regional cuisine. Traffic regulations during the market
With the holding of the market there are also important changes in the city's traffic flow. Some streets will be closed to vehicle traffic on Monday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The areas affected are Ringmauergasse (from property no. 17), Draulände, Widmanngasse to no. 10 and Lederergasse. Exceptions only apply to emergency vehicles. In order to still enable visitors to travel, a diversion route will be set up.
