Tradition meets adventure: Laurentiusmarkt in Villach on Monday!
On Monday, August 11, 2025, the city of Villach will once again be the scene of one of the most traditional events of the year: the Laurentiusmarkt. The market takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and attracts numerous visitors every year who come from near and far to enjoy the hustle and bustle. The Laurentiusmarkt is the oldest commercial event in Carinthia, with roots dating back to 1225, when the right to hold the market was granted to Villach by the Bamberg bishops. Villach.at reports that there is great anticipation among visitors and stands from all over Austria and the Alps-Adriatic region.
The market stretches from Ringmauergasse across Draulände to Kaiser-Josef-Platz and Hauptplatz. Market representative, city councilor Christian Pober, is enthusiastic about the lively participation and the wide variety of offers. Visitors can look forward to a wide range of goods, including enamel pots, traditional craft products such as wooden hay chena, as well as a selection of regional cuisine. Everyday items such as cleaning products and toys are also offered, making the market a true shopping paradise. Click Carinthia highlights that the Laurentiusmarkt is an integral part of the annual calendar for many people in Villach and brings a warm, lively atmosphere to the city center.
Traffic regulations during the market
With the holding of the market there are also important changes in the city's traffic flow. Some streets will be closed to vehicle traffic on Monday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The areas affected are Ringmauergasse (from property no. 17), Draulände, Widmanngasse to no. 10 and Lederergasse. Exceptions only apply to emergency vehicles. In order to still enable visitors to travel, a diversion route will be set up. My district highlights that the traffic regulations for Monday apply from around 5 a.m. and will be maintained until the evening.
In addition to the Laurentiusmarkt, there are other exciting events in Villach in August. Holders of the Carinthian Family Card can look forward to discounts at various events in August, among other things. A special highlight is the knight's game at Sommeregg Castle, which attracts family ticket holders with free performances on August 10th. Things will also be lively in the Dobratsch Nature Park this month, as the Birds of Prey Weeks and the “Fire in the Alps” vigil are taking place there, an event to preserve the cultural heritage of the Alpine region.
