Shock find in the Europapark: Babyliche discovered in Lake Wörthersee!

On Saturday there was a shocking incident in the Europapark Klagenfurter: the body of a newborn was discovered in the east bay of Lake Wörthersee. According to [Kleinezeitung.at] (https://www.kleinezeitung.at/kaernten/198761111/babyleiche-im-europapark-ermittler-Bekamen-Bekamen-Bekamen-Bekamen-Bekamen-Bekamen-Bekamen-Bekamen, a boy, under a bush, was only one minute walk away from the well-known Starnacht-stage. The site lets the investigators puzzled - whether the baby was actually born at the site or whether the birth took place elsewhere is currently unclear.

The public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt has already initiated an investigation into “killing a child at birth”. A spokesman for the public prosecutor, Markus Kitz, said that a DNA comparison is currently planned, but can only work if the parents have already had a oral cavity smear. At the moment there is no trace of parents or other suspects, which also complicated the situation.

The course of the investigation

The public prosecutor has based the investigation into paragraph 79 of the Criminal Code, which provides a milder punishment as a murder or homicide. In the event of killing a child at birth, this paragraph provides for a prison sentence of six months to five years. Investigations are directed against both the mother of the newborn and against unknown, assuming that the birth took place without medical help. The baby find could indicate a stillbirth, but further investigations are necessary.

The tragic incident is part of the worrying statistics about child steam in Austria. According to an analysis of the [Statistical Federal Office] (https://ifh.forschungsverbund.tu-dortmund.de/getlt- against-kinder/kindstoetungen/), the number of children under the age of 15, which came to death due to assault, has dropped by almost two thirds in the past 30 years. Nevertheless, the data of 2022 eleven killed infants recorded, which is an increase of five cases compared to the previous year.

public reactions and outlook

The Klagenfurt population is shaken by the incident, and local media report intensively. The investigators hope to obtain information from the upcoming DNA analyzes that could lead to the investigation of the case and to identify parents. As long as there are no concrete results, the uncertainty will continue to exist.

The tragedy of such events not only concerns the investigators, but also society as a whole. The debates about dealing with unwanted pregnancies and support for expectant mothers could be fueled again by this case. It is to be hoped for the relatives and the entire city that the case can soon be informed.
