Ali Mahlodji inspires young people: Education as the key to the future!
Last Monday, an inspiring lecture by Iranian-born Ali Mahlodji took place at the Oberwart Business Campus. The event marks the start of a year full of projects and initiatives related to Goal 4 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4). Mahlodji, who made a name for himself as the founder of the Whatchado platform and is currently managing director of FutureOne, spoke forcefully about self-responsibility, the search for meaning and the diverse opportunities in life.
His personal story, shaped by his childhood in a refugee home, served as an impressive example of how important it is to follow your own path in life. “You are the future,” was his powerful message to the listeners. Mahlodji emphasized that education plays a key role in a future with equal opportunities and encouraged those present to take responsibility and courageously seize opportunities.
Education and SDG 4 in focus
Although SDG 4 has appeared progressive on paper since its introduction in 2015, the reality is unfortunately different. BMZ reports that many countries are stagnating or even experiencing declining developments in the education sector. What is particularly striking is the fact that graduation rates have improved at all school levels, but in many regions more girls than boys are completing school successfully.
Before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, there were already signs of slowing progress toward educational goals. In recent years, many children have lost their chances of a good education not only due to the pandemic, but also due to military conflicts and poor educational infrastructure. According to recent analyses, math and reading skills have declined in many countries. Particularly disadvantaged groups, such as low-income families, often have limited access to the necessary resources for good education [ISGlobal].
The future of education at the Oberwart campus
A bright spot in this ongoing education debate is the planned expansion of the university campus in Pinkafeld, which will create over 14,675 square meters of new educational space. Completion is planned for 2026 and new study programs are scheduled to start in September 2025. This could open up new opportunities for many pupils and students to improve their education and thus their future prospects.
Especially in view of the current challenges, it is important that education is not only inclusive but also of high quality. Ali Mahlodji's message of being brave and shaping your own path in life is more important than ever. As he rightly said, the future depends on each individual – let us take responsibility together and seize opportunities!
