Solemn blessing: New vehicles and disaster relief camp in Oberpullendorf!

The fire department is an indispensable part of our community - this was impressively demonstrated on September 27, 2025 in Oberpullendorf at the celebrations for the 135th anniversary of the city fire department. As part of this festive occasion, the blessing of a new disaster relief camp as well as three new vehicles and an emergency generator took place. This lovingly designed celebration not only brought together the volunteer fire department and the community, but also numerous guests of honor, including Mayor Johann Heisz and Provincial Councilor Heinrich Dorner from the Burgenland state government, to underline the importance of these investments for our civil protection. How meinkreis.at reported, all of the equipment was purchased over the last four years as part of the Burgenland disaster protection concept.

It was with great pride that the Oberpullendorf Volunteer Fire Department presented its new vehicles, including a swap loader vehicle with a crane, a turntable ladder with a basket and a fire fighting vehicle with four-wheel drive. An emergency power generator, which will be important for numerous operations, is also part of the new equipment. In total, almost two million euros went into the modern equipment, with over 1.3 million euros being provided as state funding. The municipality and the fire department took over the rest of the financing. Those present, including district fire brigade commander Martin Reidl and fire brigade commander Andreas Schmidt, agreed: This commitment is groundbreaking for the safety of the population.

The new disaster relief camp

The new disaster protection camp, which was built onto the fire station with an area of 250 square meters, is also particularly highlighted. The total costs of around 120,000 euros also include the use of fire department members who built the roof structure and wooden structure themselves. This warehouse ensures that the fire department can react quickly and efficiently, even during large-scale operations.

As part of the five-stage plan, which has been implemented since 2022, Burgenland's disaster protection concept plans to equip a total of 17 disaster bases by 2027. The budget for this is around 20 million euros. The commitment of the Oberpullendorf Volunteer Fire Department is particularly remarkable: In addition to the 112 active members, 24 members also belong to the youth fire department, and 13 women are now showing full commitment to this important institution. The crown highlights how important such investments are for the safety of people in Burgenland.

In summary, it can be said that the anniversary celebrations of the Oberpullendorf Volunteer Fire Department represent a strong sign of the community's cohesion and the appreciation of the fire department's work in Burgenland. The new investments and the creation of the disaster relief camp are not only a benefit for the fire department, but for the entire population, who can rely on the rapid and professional help of the emergency services.
