Ban on bicycles traveling to the summit cross in Jennersdorf!

A new decision is causing a stir in Jennersdorf: From now on it is no longer possible to cycle to the summit cross of the local mountain. This decision was announced on September 9, 2025 and has already sparked discussions among residents. Gerhard Marakovits from the Regionauten community describes the background to this driving ban in an article. The reason for this measure is not only to ensure traffic safety, but also to preserve the natural area around the summit cross. At a time when cycling is very popular, this step comes as a surprise to many and causes mixed reactions.

But the discussion about traffic regulations in the region does not stop there. Another topic that is stirring people's minds is the truck driving ban on the L116. The state of Burgenland already agreed to this in May 2018 in order to relieve the traffic situation. Traffic will be rerouted via the B65 and B57, which means an additional distance of up to seven kilometers for many drivers. However, there are different opinions on this topic among the population, as reported by bvz.at.

Citizens' initiatives and political disputes

In the last few weeks, a citizens' initiative has been formed in the Lafnitztal against the driving ban. The proponents are calling for a review of the diversion and calling for solutions that are fair to both residents and road traffic. It is interesting that a counter-movement has formed at the same time, which is supported by representatives of the FPÖ. This vehemently supports the truck driving ban and argues that the safety of residents and reducing traffic on the L116 should be the priority.

National Councilor Petra Wagner (FPÖ) has made it clear that she is also calling for heavy traffic to be rerouted to the B57 until a bypass is completed. In order to pool the voices of citizens, an online petition was launched, which will be activated in the coming days. A signature campaign has already been started to make the residents' concerns public.

How these two topics will develop further remains to be seen. The debate about the driving ban to the summit cross and the truck regulations shows how important transparent communication and participation of citizens is in such matters. The next few weeks could be crucial for traffic regulations in Jennersdorf.
