50 years of ski fun in Währing: anniversary celebration with surprise guest!

In the idyllic Währing, a tradition has seen the light of day, which takes 50 years and has shaped generations of ski enthusiasts. The Schiclub UKS AMS (Union Catholic Schools - Albertus Magnus School) was founded in 1975 by Elmar Gipperich, from an almost funny Situation at school ski championships, in which children did not go through the goals. What started as an inclination group has now developed into a proud club with over 400 members that propagates skiing for all age groups.

"We don't have a ski slope around the corner," explains chairman Elmar Gipperich. But despite this challenge, the Währingen skiers cannot be discouraged. The children and adolescents regularly travel to Tyrol, Salzburg or Styria with volunteers to learn and deepen skiing. In addition, the school's gymnasium is sweating at fitness training if the white descents are not available.

anniversary with a festive frame

A special highlight is imminent: On Saturday, June 14th, the club celebrates its 50th anniversary. The celebration takes place at the Wagner winery at Grinzinger Strasse 53, and the entire club is looking forward to a varied program. Image galleries, award ceremonies and a surprise guest will provide good entertainment on this day. "I hope that the club will remain in the next 50 years," says Gipperich with confidence.

successes that make proud

The successes of the association cannot be overlooked: more than 500 Viennese championship titles and over 1,500 victories in races of the Austrian Ski Association are characterized by the glorious record of the Währinger skiers. In addition, the team collected 13 gold medals at the World Cup. Just keep it up, you could say, because the Schiclub has long made a name for itself.

A look at the history of alpine skiing shows that the roots of this popular sport are deeply anchored in Austria. The country has played a leading role in the development of skiing since the early 1900s and has produced some of the most renowned ski areas, including Kitzbühel. Here, too, the goals are clear here in the UKS AMS: beginners, advanced, könern and top athletes should be offered comprehensive support by state -certified trainers and instructors.

a diverse program

In addition to skiing, the association offers an extensive training program that takes place in its own fitness center at Gentzgasse 92. The members can take part in various courses during the holidays and even show their skills in international competitions. A summer sports week on the Mondsee is also part of the offer.

The biggest challenge for the Währing team, however, remains the geographical location. But with a committed team and a strong community spirit, not only fought against each other, but also for the love of sport.

For more information about the club and its activities, the website of the UKS AMS can be visited or contact the top of the club. On this surprising sporty weekend there is still one thing to say: good skiing and a successful future!
