Tschentscher in the Vienna City Hall: Cities dialogue for future projects!

Wien, Österreich - On June 11, 2025, Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher met with his counterpart from Vienna and Zurich in a two -day trilogy in the Vienna City Hall. The aim of the meeting was to strengthen the cooperation between the three important cities and to exchange ideas about common concerns. The topics ranged from sustainable housing to public transport to the important area of climate protection.

Tschenscher presented the social democratic strategies that follow all three cities. "We have a lot in common, especially when it comes to socially just solutions in the areas of housing and local transport," said Tschentscher. In this context, he also congratulated his Viennese colleague Michael Ludwig on re -election as mayor and governor.

health and environment in focus

One of the central topics dealt with within the trilogue was the healthcare that was increasingly focused by innovative medical care forms in 2023. Ludwig emphasized the responsibility of the city regulations, which are not only responsible for economic stability, but also for social cohesion and environmental protection. These concerns are also reflected in the planned investments of the cities.

As part of the program, the delegation visited the largest heat pump system in Europe, which is operated by the EBSWIES and provides climate -neutral heat for around 56,000 households. This modern system will be expanded by three to six large heat pumps by 2027, which represents another step towards sustainability. Furthermore, the pilot project "Waste2value" was on the plan that converted waste into CO2-neutral fuel. Such projects are essential to counter the challenges of urban transformation and to promote the resilience of the cities.

A look into the future

Another highlight of the program was the visit to the Floridsdorf Clinic, in which the mayors found out about the latest approaches in the health infrastructure. Even in a year that brings many challenges, the exchange between cities remains important to find solutions that are not only now, but also in the future.

The cooperation between Hamburg, Vienna and Zurich is not new; It started in Hamburg in 2019 and has been continued regularly since then. Corine Mauch, the city president of Zurich, emphasized the active partnership between the cities and emphasized the need to stand together in challenging times. Nowadays, cities are faced with many challenges, such as demographic changes, extreme weather events or crises such as pandemics, and it is important to find resilient and sustainable solutions.

Tschentscher opened to Berlin after the trilogue for the 1055th meeting of the Federal Council in order to also represent the concerns of the city partnership at the level there.
