New state party secretary Jörg Neumayer: SPÖ Vienna during the start!
Innere Stadt, Österreich - On June 10, 2025, the new Vienna city government held its constituent meeting, which will follow the elections of April 27, 2025. In this session, Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) was again confirmed in his office. This starts a new era for the SPÖ and its coalition partners Neos under the motto "upswing coalition", as the Vienna SPÖ announced in an official message. This government program comprises 191 pages and focuses on economic impulses and social cohesion in order to successfully master the challenges of the next few years.
A central point that is highlighted in this program is the strategy for the establishment of Vienna as a "economic engine in Austria". For this purpose, investments in digital technologies and artificial intelligence are to be carried out, as well as the expansion of the Life Science Center. Vienna will also strive to run the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 and at the same time strive for ambitious climate goals. The focus is on the fact that Vienna will be climate-neutral by 2040, including an expansion of photovoltaic systems and the creation of new parking and green areas.
new state party secretary
Another important step within the SPÖ is the appointment of Jörg Neumayer as the new state party secretary. He follows Barbara Novak, who is now entering the city government as a new financial councilor. Neumayer, 40 years old, has been a Vienna municipal council and member of the state parliament of the SPÖ since 2015. Mayor Ludwig congratulated Neumayer on this appointment and emphasized his experience and commitment: "I am convinced that Jörg Neumayer will perform the task with competence and political feeling," said Ludwig in his speech.
Neumayer has set itself the goal of positioning the SPÖ Vienna as a strong, modern and future -oriented force. Kathrin Gaál remains Vice Mayor in the new coalition, while other long -standing city councilors such as Jürgen Czernohorszky and Peter Hacker also keep their departments. It is noteworthy that the proportion of women in the Vienna City Senate is now 66.7 percent, which continues to drive political equality.
key projects of the new government
The new government faces an abundance of challenges that are addressed in the government program. Among other things, the expansion of the urban cycle paths and the provision of offers for children with increased language support is planned. The modernization of the hospital infrastructure and the expansion of regional health centers are also part of the plan. To ensure that the projects are implemented efficiently, a government monitor is introduced that continuously monitors the progress.
The past few years have shown that the SPÖ has already achieved a lot in Vienna. With a coalition majority of 53 out of 100 mandates, the course is well set for the next few years. As Mayor Ludwig concluded: "We have achieved a lot together and face new challenges that we will determine", which underlines the cohesion and determination of the new government. Further information about the new initiatives and strategies can be found in the comprehensive government program, which was also published on the website of the City of Vienna.
For the coming months, it is to be hoped that the planned measures will be well caught and successfully implemented, because there is something for the future of Vienna!
