A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday evening, October 17, 2025, on the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road. A 66-year-old driver from the Urfahr-Raum district left his vehicle off the road around 9:20 p.m., rolled over and ended up on the roof. All four occupants in the car, aged between 61 and 67, were injured in this incident and had to be rescued from the trapped vehicle. The local fire departments, including Bad Mitterndorf, Klachau and Tauplitz, as well as the rescue service were quickly at the scene of the accident and provided first aid.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Plateauweg and Alpenstrasse, with unclear circumstances causing the vehicle to fall about 20 meters over a slope in the steep terrain before coming to a stop on a tree. The emergency services were alerted by a triggered e-call, which is crucial in such situations.
Injured people have to go to hospital
The occupants' injuries varied in severity. Three people were taken to the hospitals in Rottenmann and Schladming in an ambulance, while another person was flown to the hospital in the C14 rescue helicopter. This quick response by rescue workers was necessary to ensure the safety of the injured.
Breathalyzer test was positive
An alcohol test on the driver came back positive, further complicating the circumstances of the accident. Alcohol-related traffic accidents are a serious issue that is also increasingly being covered in statistical reports in other countries, such as Germany.
