Draw in Klagenfurt: Kapfenberg and Waidmannsdorf in a battle of attrition
Yesterday's football evening brought an exciting duel between KSV 1919 and SK Austria Klagenfurt, which ended in a 1-1 draw. In this exciting match, the Violets retained a point and asserted themselves in the battle of attrition in front of their home crowd.
Coach Landler made an important change in the starting eleven compared to the last game against St. Pölten (1:2). Nik Marinsek returned to the team, while Marcel Krnjic took his place on the bench for the first time this season. The defense around goalkeeper Adnan Kanuric consisted of Mario Matkovic, Marco Gantschnig, Aidan Liu and support from Michael Lang and Elias Jandrisevits. The central three-man line in midfield included Almir Oda, Marinsek and Marc Andre Schmerböck, while captain Florian Jaritz and Bartol Barisic caused a stir in attack.
Exciting moves and chances
Jaritz had the first shot in the 9th minute, but his shot went over the goal. However, Klagenfurt's Luca Hassler let it go in the 23rd minute when he was stopped by Matkovic. The shock for the hosts came in the 29th minute: after a corner from Marinsek, Aidan Liu scored with a header and put Waidmannsdorf in the lead.
Kapfenberg was by no means shocked and shortly afterwards had chances through Moritz Berg (33') and Robin Littig, both of whom were denied by Kanuric. After the break, Landler brought a breath of fresh air into the game with Marcel Krnjic (46th minute), but the attackers continued to fail in the second half, which increased the drama of the game.
Penalty and tension until the last minute
In the 67th minute there was a penalty-worthy press strike between Jandrisevits and Ivan Lagundzic. Hassler stepped up, but Kanuric saved the penalty. Hassler was able to equalize in the follow-up shot. From then on, Kapfenberg picked up the pace and Lagundzic and Lamine Toure had several opportunities, but Kanuric failed.
Klagenfurt really came into its own in the last few minutes. Krnjic hit the crossbar with a header (82') and Jandrisevits also had a sniff of victory shortly before the final whistle when Strebiniger directed his shot towards a corner. Despite all efforts, it was ultimately a draw, which earned one point for both teams.
After ten rounds in the ADMIRAL 2nd league, KSV 1919 now has a score that still leaves room for improvement. The current season is barely more than four months old and the fight to stay in the league will be exciting. With the next game against SW Bregenz on October 24th, Kapfenberger would like to add three points to their account again in order to secure a better starting position.
