A reason to celebrate in Villach! Not only that the city is experiencing great growth, it can now also look forward to a very special award. Like 5min.at , the magistrate of Villach received two awards at the awarding of the Austrian administrative state prices. The awarded urban development concept "Nikolai Quarter" and the innovative mobile asphalt recycling system convinced the jury and are celebrated as showcases.

Especially the ISEK process (integrated urban development concept) for the Nikolaiquartier stands out. This concept, which was developed for a new district between the brewery and the state hospital, was co -financed by the EU, the state of Carinthia and the city of Villach. An important part of the project is the active citizen participation, which was ensured by online surveys and workshops. In this way, the needs of the villacies can flow into the planning.

The Mayor Günther Albel (SPÖ) was pleased with the success and congratulated the employees of the Villach town hall. "These awards are evidence of the commitment and innovative strength of our team," emphasized Albel. Two years ago, Villach had already cleared an Austrian administrative award for the digital condition recording of all streets in the municipal area. The city shows that it has a good hand in administration and urban development.

The mobile asphaltecycling system is another example of sustainable urban development: it transforms old asphalt fragments into valuable filling material that can be used for smaller road damage. This is in line with the goals for sustainable cities, as they are also captured in the

What else is going on in Villach? The city is one of the fastest growing cities in Austria, and developments do not save on ambitious projects. The focus is on modern and resource -saving quarters. According to the "Max Palais" at the main train station, the next steps for the Nikolai district are already planned. It should extend to around 2.1 hectares, whereby the focal area that can be implemented is up to 45,000 square meters, without additional sealing of the areas.
