New alternative building at Bregenz station: Modernization starts now!
Bregenz, Österreich - The ÖBB will openly open the new alternative building at Bregenz station on July 16, 2025. With a construction period of only three months, the almost 800 square meter building is finally ready to meet the needs of travelers. The modernized customer areas now offer a ticket switch, a travel center, a comfortable waiting area and of course also sanitary facilities that will replace the outdated facilities. Press ÖBB reported that the new escalators were previously installed.
But the alternative building is not only intended for travelers. It also houses offices and break rooms for the employees of the ÖBB and the post buses. Furthermore, rooms for the Vorarlberg (VVV) transport association and a bakery are planned to expand the offer for visitors around the train station. The total completion of the alternative building will be sought until the end of 2025.
long -term plans for the Bregenz station
In addition, the builders pursue long -term conversion goals for the Bregenz train station. Among other things, the planned variant 4a+ provides for the laying of the state road, which should lead to better connections between trains, the leisure facilities on the lake shore and a comprehensive development of the station district. The main construction measures for the new train station are expected to start at the beginning of the 2030s. During the festival time, however, the construction work is interrupted so as not to disturb visitors.
In view of the current situation in public transport, the new developments are particularly welcome. The decline in passengers of the past few months was remarkable. On Monday, ÖBB were confronted with a decline of 70 % in local and long-distance traffic, which led to a drop in sales of 80 %. The reasons for this are diverse, including the exposed lessons and the actually non -existent international rail traffic. vn.at emphasizes that the railway boss Andreas Matthä emphasizes the responsibility of the state company and takes measures to adapt the ticket.
In Vorarlberg, the S1 railway line now remains every half hour between Bludenz and Lindau, while the timetables for certain regional trains are somewhat tighter. The adjustments are necessary to react efficiently to the changed passenger numbers. For travelers who rely on the buses, there will be a change to the Saturday timetable in most regions from Thursday, which means that the services will end between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The opening of the new alternative building in Bregenz strengthens the infrastructure and, above all, signals the will to improve passengers' travel experiences. Whether commuting or in transit, the ÖBB wants to ensure that there is something for everyone and that the quality of service is increased by modern facilities. A step in the right direction for public transport in the region.
