Bregenz Festival 2025: Win a look behind the scenes!
The Bregenz Festival heads for a new climax: On July 13, 2025, the romantic opera "Der Freischütz" by Carl Maria von Weber is on the program. This staging goes into the second season on the impressive sea stage, which is known for its breathtaking backdrops. This time there is even a special competition organized by SWR4. On July 31, 2025, participants can take a fascinating look behind the scenes of these masterpieces and take part in a stage tour that begins shortly before the performance. In this way, the winners experience the final preparations up close and can explore the props and the paths of the actresses.
The opera itself, which was premiered in 1821, tells the gripping story of Max, a young writer who falls in love with Agathe, the daughter of the forester Kuno. In order to win Agathe to the woman, Max has to take part in a shooting competition. But the challenge is great and the questionable war veteran Kaspar offers Max to help him with the help of "free balls" that never miss their goal. In a desperate act, Max sells his soul to the devil to win the competition. This gloomy action plays in a village in Germany, during the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War.
The staging on the lake stage
The premiere of this new production takes place on July 17, 2024, and the talented Enrique Mazzola, supported by the Viennese symphonists, has the musical direction. Directed by Philipp Stölzl, which has created an impressive winter landscape with 28 artificial trees and weathered wooden houses, which reinforces the melancholic atmosphere of the plot. The central figure, the devil Samiel, is played by Moritz von Treuenfels, while the other roles are top -class, including Mauro Peter as Max and Nikola Hillebrand as Agathe.
The staging combines elements of horror and kitsch in an impressive way and brings up contemporary topics into the classic narrative. The audience was enthusiastic about the musical performance and the first -class singers, and the premiere was a complete success - completely sold out. The acoustic effects on the seaside stage ensure a unique experience that captivates the audience.
