A serious accident on the Tauern Autobahn caused a stir on Saturday afternoon, August 10, 2025. At 11:35 a.m. there was a serious collision in the Krems municipality, Spittal/Drau district, involving several vehicles. Three cars and a truck were damaged, with a 38-year-old man from the region having to be taken to hospital.

What exactly happened? The person who caused the accident, the 38-year-old, braked abruptly when a vehicle in front of him braked sharply. The police suspect that he noticed the braking maneuver too late and then drove into the car of a 41-year-old driver from Germany, which in turn was pushed onto a 48-year-old Croatian.

Serious collision and consequences

After the impact, the 38-year-old left the road and collided sideways with a semi-trailer truck before crashing into the center guard rail. The accident caused significant damage to all vehicles involved, which was confirmed by the fire department. The fire departments from Rennweg, Gmünd and St. Peter-Oberdorf were on site with a total of 30 emergency services to help after the accident, as Heute reports.

The 38-year-old was taken to the Spittal/Drau hospital with injuries of an undetermined degree. The 48-year-old Croatian's passenger also had to be taken to the same clinic due to injuries. An alcohol test revealed that the person who caused the accident tested positive, while the others involved tested negative.

Traffic disruptions on the A10

As a result, the A10 Tauernautobahn in the direction of Villach was completely closed until around 1:15 p.m. This led to significant traffic delays. The incident will probably result in further investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
