Serious motorcycle accident in Unterpreitenegg: Driver falls on steep terrain
A serious motorcycle accident occurred this morning in Unterpreitenegg when a 42-year-old motorcyclist had an accident on the B70 towards Waldenstein around 11 a.m. The man was the second of five motorcyclists in a group who were touring together. For unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle in a right-hand bend and left the road. The machine crashed into the guardrail, causing the driver to be thrown over it.
The situation for the injured driver was dramatic: After the impact, his motorcycle slipped across the road and fell into a steep, wooded area. Thanks to the quick deployment of the emergency doctor and rescue service as well as the Preitenegg volunteer fire department and the St. Andrä im Lavanttal mountain rescue service, the injured man was rescued. A comprehensive rescue operation was necessary, which made the intervention of the rescue workers all the more important.
Traffic disruptions and rescue measures
Packer Street was closed to all traffic from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. during the rescue work. This led to delays in ensuring the safety of emergency responders and rescuing the injured man. The damaged motorcycle also had to be recovered by a towing company.
While the emergency services were responding, the group of motorcyclists looked for ways to clarify what happened in the accident. It remains to be seen whether the driver will escape with more serious injuries. The exact causes of the accident remain unclear and are being investigated by the police.
Accidents like this call for caution. Motorcycle rides in the beautiful Austrian landscapes are particularly popular in the warm months, but safety and driving style should always be taken into account. Given the current situation, we wish the injured driver a speedy recovery and everyone involved a lot of strength during this difficult time.
