Alserbachstrasse construction site: changes in traffic and bike path newities!

Alserbachstraße, 1090 Wien, Österreich - The construction site in Alserbachstrasse in the 9th Viennese district is currently causing excitement and traffic restrictions. The background is the extensive water pipe that started in February 2025 and is now transferring into a new construction phase in June 2025. vienna.at reports that the work is ongoing by July 2025 and aims to ensure long-term water supply in Vienna. The street between Liechtensteinstrasse and Nussdorfer Straße is temporarily closed to traffic.

From June 4, 2025, Alserbachstraße, which is one of the city, will be closed, while the city's and long -term traffic can continue to flow. Dead lines lead over Liechtensteinstrasse and Viriotgasse to Nussdorfer Straße. For the affected residents and commuters, this means more patience when driving. There is also a temporary adjustment of the route guidance of the bus 40a and the N38 night bus, which means that some stops cannot be temporarily met.

extensive construction work in detail

The construction work is divided into several phases and are distributed on different streets in the northern center of Vienna, such as 5min.at. This will not only affect Alserbachstrasse, but also Nordbergstrasse 2-8. The actual construction site was set up on February 10, 2025, and the first construction phase included the time until the end of May 2025. The work on the water pipes is divided into six construction phases and extends over both sites

In addition to the ongoing construction work, there is also progress in the cycling infrastructure. A new two-way bike path, the construction of which started in April 2025, will combine Alserbachstrasse with important connections such as the belt (U6 Station Währinger Straße) and the land on the Danube Canal (U4 Station Friedensbrücke). This cycle path should become a central connection for cyclists, even if, for reasons of space

The outlook

The completion of the entire measures is planned for October 2025, whereby Alserbachstrasse is then to be opened again in both directions. Until then, road users and residents have to prepare for restrictions, especially with regard to access to Pfluggasse, which is only accessible to operations and construction vehicles via Alserbachstrasse. With all inconvenience, however, the focus is on the big goal: an improved and sustainably secured water supply for the city of Vienna.
