Construction work on Jahnstrasse: traffic chaos threatens from September 1st!

In the city of Bregenz, extensive renovation work will be carried out on Jahnstrasse from September 1, 2025. These measures, which are expected to last eight weeks, include the replacement of gas, water and electricity pipes as well as street drainage. Preparations for future use of lake water are also part of the project. During the construction period, Jahnstrasse will be closed to through traffic, but access to apartments and shops will remain open to pedestrians, although there may be short waiting times. Residents will be informed about appropriate access options, and the city of Bregenz asks for their understanding of the temporary restrictions that are necessary for a sustainable improvement in the infrastructure and quality of life in the city. The city of Bregenz reports this in its official article.

But the construction work on Jahnstrasse is not the only one that is currently being carried out in Bregenz. Stadtwerke Bregenz GmbH is also busy with various projects that are intended to improve supply in the region. This includes, among other things, the renovation of the water supply pipes as part of the local heating network on Gallusstrasse, which will last until September 5, 2025. Driving through and parking are prohibited here, but access for residents remains possible with small restrictions. Renovation work on gas and water supply pipes will also take place in Druckergasse until September 22, 2025. These construction sites aim to systematically expand and maintain the city's supply infrastructure. As the municipal utilities report, they are trying to keep the inconvenience for residents as low as possible. If you have any questions, please contact Mr Leon Endres on 0664 6141150. Sustainable urban development in focus

The current infrastructure development in Bregenz falls into the larger context of the mobility transition, which is considered relevant not only locally but also nationwide. According to the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), cities and municipalities are key players in the implementation of new mobility concepts. In Austria there are plans to reduce private motorized transport and to promote alternative means of transport such as walking, bicycles and public transport. This is about creating an infrastructure of “short distances” that benefits pedestrians and cyclists.

Initiatives such as the NaMIx project, which will develop a sustainability index for mobility in urban districts, show that there is a clear direction towards environmentally and resource-saving mobility. Bregenz could take on a pioneering role with these implementation plans. With the introduction of electric minibuses, people with limited mobility could also reach their destination more easily.

It is important for the city to use current data for sustainable planning. The TwinCity3D project is developing a system for continuous monitoring of urban climate and traffic in order to facilitate planning processes and better control traffic. The need for comprehensive solutions is high because mobility is essential for economic and social cohesion.

With the upcoming work and the holistic approaches to urban development, hope is growing for a sustainable improvement of the infrastructure in Bregenz, which will be of benefit to all citizens. The city is thus implementing several important points of sustainable urban and transport planning. You can find out more about this in a comprehensive article from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.
