Staying healthy in Bludenz: Lectures on dementia and communication!
There's a lot happening in Bludenz in autumn! The city administration, in collaboration with Connexia, has launched an exciting series of events entitled “Health in Conversation”. This series, which highlights various essential topics, begins on September 16th and offers those interested the opportunity to exchange ideas about growing older, dealing with dementia and mindful communication.
Every appointment has something special! The start will be by Dr. Balazs Szanto, who gave a lecture on the topic “Is this already dementia or is it still normal forgetfulness?” will hold. This takes place as part of Dementia Week, which is an important part of the series of events and focuses on one of the greatest challenges of our time. With over 1 million people affected in Austria alone, dealing with dementia is a topic that is highly topical and necessary.
Versatile offers
On October 7th there will be an interactive keynote speech by Nicole Burtscher, who will focus on “Connection instead of conflict – appreciative communication in everyday life”. Here, participants learn how important respectful conversation is in everyday life, especially in challenging situations. At the end of the series, Dr. Ute Witzani will give a lecture on “Restless Legs Syndrome” on November 11th.
Restless legs syndrome, also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a common sensorimotor sleep disorder that affects many people. Those affected feel a strong urge to move their legs, combined with unpleasant sensations that particularly increase during periods of rest, i.e. in the evening or at night. Not only can this cause sleep problems, but it can also increase the risk of mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. According to experts, the prevalence of this condition in Caucasian populations ranges from 2.4% to 10.8%, while other regions such as East Asia and South America experience lower rates. Dr. Witzani will provide information about the latest developments in diagnostics and treatment and expand understanding of this complex disease.
