Blood donation: This is how a little stitch saves life in summer!

What is the secret of blood donation campaigns in the Germanysberg district? Franz Poscharnik, a volunteer at the Red Cross for more than 30 years, and blood donation officers for eleven years, gives us an insight into the pioneering developments. "We currently have between 52 and 55 blood acceptance dates a year," explains Poscharnik. Last year, over 2,200 blood cannon can be collected, which shows that the willingness of the people is to donate, despite challenging times.

"In the past, only about two thirds of the donations were useful, today this number is almost 100 percent," emphasizes Poscharnik. This improvement is the result of intensive information about the advantages of donating blood. "Society has changed," said Poscharnik. "After donations, however, the sociable get -together has become less common, possibly because of the pandemic."

The new blood donation app

An important progress in this area is the new blood donation app of the Red Cross. This app not only makes it easier to register, but also offers a digital donor service that requires one -off postal identification. If you want to register, just go to www.spenderservice.net, click on "Register" and follow the instructions. Within a very short time you have the opportunity to make an important contribution with just a few clicks.

The app also means that many donors keep returning. This is gratifying, because blood donations are crucial: a thoroughbred donation can help up to three patients. "Blood donations can save lives," says Poscharnik. At the same time, donors can also enjoy health benefits, including regular health checks and the feeling of a “warm glow” that many experience after the donation. This not only strengthens the community, but also has a positive impact on your own well -being.

blood donation dates in July

The need for blood canned goods increases particularly during the summer months if the number of accidents increase due to leisure activities. To cover the need, Poscharnik has listed the next blood donation dates in the district:

  • 13. July: elementary school Groß St. Florian (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
  • 17. July: Mittelschule Preding (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • 18. July: Middle School Deutschlandsberg (2.30pm to 7pm)
  • 18. July: Lerchhaus Eibiswald (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • 23. July: Steinhalle Lannach (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • 28. July: St. St. Stefan Ob Stefan (3 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

The entire dates can be found on www.termine.blut.at. Poscharnik particularly appeals to first donors: "See the blood donation as a small health check." Before the donation, at least two liters of water should be drunk to prepare the body for the donation. In addition, thanks to the blood donor to the many supporters from the communities who make this possible.

With the knowledge that every donation makes a real difference, the chances are great that many people choose this honorable thing. So in times when blood canned blood is more needed than ever, it means: attack the phone and register - a little stitch with great effect is waiting for you!
