This cable car, which is in operation in both summer and winter, has crossed a height difference of 1760 m since its first section in 1951 and rewards the passengers with breathtaking views.
The first section leads to Schönbergalm and copes 742 meters in just four minutes. At a speed of 12 m/s (43.2 km/h) it is the fastest part of the cable car. Up there, visitors can expect the Dachstein ice cream cave and the Dachstein mammoth cave, which can be explored all year round.

The area offers numerous activities for the summer months. Visitors can hike on the Dachstein plateau and enjoy the impressive viewing platforms such as the "5fingers". A special highlight is the Dachstein Shark, which promises pure thrill. There is also the possibility to explore the cave world with the giant ice cave and the mammoth and Koppenbrüller cave. The region also has a lot to offer in winter: skiers and snowboarders get their money's worth, and offers such as snowshoeing, ice climbing and paragliding can be used to actively enjoy the fantastic backdrop. The cable car was modernized in 2007 to better adapt winter operation, and the past few years have made the Höhenweg a popular destination - not least due to the numerous awards. Dachstein Krippenstein was awarded one of the "best Austrian summer mountain railways" in 2024 and won several gold in Austrian cable cars.
