Bicycle thefts: Police catch the perpetrators after a major manhunt!

In recent days, a worrying increase in bicycle thefts has come to light in the Bruck area. A total of several reports from injured bike owners reached the police, which led to an intensive search in Pinzgau and Pongau meinkreis.at reported. On August 25, 2025, targeted investigations were initiated, which quickly led to success.

As part of this search, the police in Hollersbach stopped a suspicious car with a trailer that exactly matched the descriptions given by the witnesses. In this trailer, the officers discovered five high-quality bicycles that could be clearly assigned to the previously reported thefts. Two men, a 23-year-old and a 39-year-old, both from Romania, were arrested and some confessed. Both cited lack of money as the motive for their actions and planned to sell the stolen bicycles in Romania. The total damage is around 35,000 euros.

Series of bicycle thefts

However, the case in Bruck is not the only one in the state of Salzburg. On the same weekend, several bicycle thefts were reported throughout Salzburg, both in the city and in the country, report colleagues from salzburg24.at. A particularly audacious theft occurred in Oberndorf, where two unlocked bicycles were stolen during the night and the damaged owners discovered their bikes in an online sale a short time later.

The police intervened when a 39-year-old local man, the alleged buyer, made an appointment with the sellers. At this meeting, the officers were not only able to arrest a 22-year-old Croatian and a 21-year-old woman from Flachgau, but also seized four more stolen bicycles from their apartment. Both suspects have confessed and are being reported.

Further theft-related activities

Further incidents also took place in Pinzgau between Saturday and Monday. In Leogang, for example, the bicycle cellar of a hotel was broken into, where two downhill bikes were stolen, and an e-bike disappeared in a hotel garage. Unlocked e-bikes were also stolen in Saalbach, while three locked bicycles were stolen in Glanegg. In the city of Salzburg, a mountain bike was stolen from a bicycle cellar in Lehen. The police have started an investigation and are asking the public for help.

This increase in bike theft should be a warning to all cyclists to be extra careful when securing their bikes. Together with the police, we hope to catch more perpetrators as quickly as possible and reduce the constant danger for bike owners.
