School start in 2025: Fewer students in the Eisenstadt district, new school opens!

The start of school is just around the corner and there is a lot of excitement! On Monday, September 1st, 591 Tafelgrads will start their school careers in the Eisenstadt district. A total of 19,262 students will be counted in the district in the new school year, which corresponds to 1,131 school classes. This means that the number of students in compulsory schooling has fallen slightly compared to the previous year, when there were still 19,450. A further decline to 19,293 students can be predicted for the 2023/24 school year. Even if the numbers are declining overall, the general higher schools (AHS) and the vocational middle and higher schools (BMHS) are enjoying increasing popularity. These are being attended by 13,605 students this year, which represents a positive development compared to 13,512 students last year.

A highlight of the new school year is the opening of a new elementary school in Zillingtal, which is opening its doors for the first time in almost 50 years. Under the leadership of Isabella Radatz-Grauszer, director of the Steinbrunn elementary school, this new educational institution will certainly bring a breath of fresh air to the region.

Challenges in teaching staff

While there are enough teachers in the Eisenstadt district, there is still a need for more applications for Croatian. This is a point that should not be underestimated, especially when filling teaching positions is being discussed. In order to further improve the quality of education, the Burgenland Education Directorate and the school authorities have announced numerous measures to support the students. The aim is to define clear responsibilities, particularly by reorganizing school support groups.

A new mobile phone concept will also be introduced to better support parents and students in using mobile devices. Educators are increasingly taking on the role of life companions for the students, which ensures a positive learning atmosphere.

A look beyond the district

Burgenland ORF berichtet von verschiedenen Maßnahmen, die Schulbehörden angekündigt haben, um die Schüler bestmöglich zu unterstützen.

With all of these developments, it remains to be seen how the new school year will bring new opportunities and challenges for students and teachers alike. One thing is certain: education remains a dynamic field that requires constant adjustments and improvements.

My district will continue to keep us up to date on developments in the education sector.
