Vienna in change: Family exhibition shows art of the past and future
From August 20th, we can look forward to an exciting exhibition in Vienna, which addresses the cultural development of the city: "Vienna in Time Change". Members of the Schrottmeyer family, above all the author Monika Schrottmeyer, will present works that will be shown by September 18, 2025. In her essay with the title "Vienna in Time Change. Yesterday - TOW - TODAY" she illuminates the achievements of the 20s and the transformation of Vienna to the modern metropolis. Aspects such as art, culture, education, health and social housing are strongly involved in the discussion, such as meinziK.at reports.
The older ones will remember how the city has grown over the decades. Monika Schrottmeyer's novels "That's it" and "Time jumps" thematize life stories from the interwar period to the post -war period and deal with the past. But the present also has its place in this exhibition - the works of her family impressively show the contrasts between "old" and "new" Vienna. A portrait of Willi Boskovsky adorns the legacy of the painter Alexander Rudolf+, who developed his creativity during his activities as an aircraft mechanic and later as a professional artist.
diverse perspectives of the Schrottmeyer family
Paul-Stephan Binder, another exhibitor, will present his impressive black and white photographs of modern Vienna. His pictures not only show the architecture of the city, but also the small, often overlooked details that shape the cityscape. Daughter Marie Bolart, only 15 years old, cleverly combines the past with the present in her drawings and thus promises a fresh look at the topics of the exhibition.
But Vienna as a cultural metropolis includes much more than this one exhibition. As explained wien.gv.at, the diverse cultural offer is part of the high quality of life in the city. Vienna is regularly classified in surveys on the quality of life as particularly liable - a merit of rich cultural life, which is accessible to all population groups. This cultural diversity strengthens social interaction and creates approaches that are important for the community.
artistic visions for the future
The concepts developed as part of the Cultural Strategy 2030 include the creation of cultural infrastructure projects and the promotion of Fair Pay for artists. The entire process is designed to think about Vienna's cultural profile into the future and to enable a dialogue between different actors. The challenges that Covid-19 pandemic brought with it also required creativity and innovation spirit to implement these measures.
parallel to the exhibition "Vienna in Time Change" also takes place in the interdisciplinary art festival "Media -fresh" in the small village of Boden in Tyrol. This is another example of how art and media can promote a dialogue between tradition and modern developments. Here the village becomes an experimental field-a very exciting development that shows that art is not only created in the big city, but also has its place in rural areas, as Strawanzerin.at.
The exhibition "Vienna in Time Change" and the large number of artistic and cultural activities in Vienna impressively show that the city not only appreciates the past, but also courageously looks into the future. Here art becomes a bridge over time- and all those interested in art and culture should not be missed!
