Share instead of throwing away: collect school matters for needy families!

Brigittenau, Österreich - In the Leopoldstadt and Brigittenau, an important school-matters will be carried out in the coming weeks. The aim of this initiative is to pass on well -preserved school matters to needy families free of charge and thus make it easier for all children to start school. The campaign runs until August 22, 2025 and is intended to support families who are highly demanded by the financial burdens of the school start. Klaus Schwertner, the managing director of Caritas Vienna, emphasizes that the financial burden on families with income has increased significantly due to the start of school, especially since the Corona crisis. Schwertner emphasizes that around 230,000 children and adolescents in Austria are at risk of poverty, with almost every fourth child affected by poverty in Vienna.

What can be donated? Among other things, school bags, backpacks, work cases, circle, snack boxes, calculators, feather boxes, rulers and drawing utensils are collected. The donations are submitted in two collection points: in the GB district office at Max-Winter-Platz 23 and in the district head Brigittenau at Brigittaplatz 10. The opening times are variable, so that everyone has the opportunity to conveniently hand over their donations. The free issue of the donated school matters will take place on August 26 and 27, 2025 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the district manager of Brigittenau.

the need for support

The school-matters are not only a way to offer material support, but also an answer to the increasing social inequalities in the education system. According to a study, the differences are already shown in the early childhood education phases and run through all fields of education. Children from socially disadvantaged families often have a difficult access to high -quality education, which in the long term reduces their opportunities. A school start package costs up to 300 euros - a sum that many families cannot apply.

Caritas therefore also received 450 filled school bags as part of their school collection by the Youngcaritas, in which 49 schools and 7,940 students were involved. Nevertheless, further donations are necessary to support even more families. The area of education in Austria is strongly shaped by the social background. This shows that young people with a lower socio -economic status of rare high schools attend and have less chances of fully qualified training.

Education as poverty prevention

The examination of education and social inequality is urgently needed, because education is often inherited in Austria. Evidence proves that children from privileged families are better educated and achieve higher skills. A study by the IH shows that these inequalities were further tightened by the pandeme -related school closings and the increased long -distance lessons; In many cases, the children lacked the technical means to follow the lessons. With its learning cafes, Caritas not only offers help, but also actively contributes to poverty.

The school-matters in Leopoldstadt and Brigittenau is therefore an important step in the right direction. It shows that the community holds together and takes care of the concerns of the disadvantaged children. Each donation counts and can make a big difference for the children. Together we can make sure that all children have the same chance of education and a good start to the new school year.
