Kufstein, Österreich - In Kufstein, preparations for the musical highlight of the summer of 2025 are in full swing. The focus is on the legendary musical "West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein, which is performed in the impressive backdrop of the Kufstein fortress. This staging takes place as part of the Musical summer Kufstein for the 17th time and has long since developed into an integral part of the Kufstein cultural calendar.

The premiere of the musical is scheduled for July 24, 2025. "West Side Story", which is performed in German, inspires songs in English and a playing time of about 2.5 hours. The story behind "West Side Story"

The action played in New York in the 1950s and tells the tragic love story of Tony and Maria, who come from hostile youth gangs, the jets and the Sharks. Despite the conflicts between the gangs, their love leads to misleading and dramatic events. Bassing Shakespeare's "Romeo and Julia", "West Side Story" has developed into a timeless classic since its premiere in 1957. The film was filmed in 1961, followed by the first German -language staging in 1968 in the Volksoper Vienna.

The design of costumes and stage design is a special challenge in the historical fortress Kufstein. Julia Neuhold, who is responsible for the creative design, will revert and color both new and second-hand costumes in order to capture the flair of the time-collector.

It should be noted that the driveway to the fortress is possible one hour before the start of the introduction and the return trip can only be carried out with the lift.

In order to do justice to all visitors, it is pointed out that the site is only suitable for wheelchair users. However, the Red Cross offers an opposite fee for a transport service to enable barrier -free access.
