Lungauer fire brigade shines at the state competition: medals for Mariapfarr!

On June 28, 2025, the time had finally come: The 31st state fire service competition in Mariapfarr attracted around 1,700 fire brigade members from Salzburg and Lower Austria. The spectacle not only offered exciting competitions, but also a platform for team spirit, skill and speed. In the competition, the participants had to complete a fire -fighting attack and a relay race, in which precise work was in demand. The festive framework conditions were organized by the Mariapfarr fire brigade, under the direction of Obi Andreas Moser, who also successfully deleted a hedge fire in the local area.

The achievements of the Lungau groups were impressive and were recognized with several placements. In the bronze category without age, the Mariapfarre fire brigade reached the excellent second place, while the St. Michael 1 fire truck took fourth place. In the groups with age points, the fire brigade Tamsweg made it to third place and the Tamsweg fire brigade Wölting secured the 15th place. In the silver area without age points, Mariapfarr reached fifth place, while in the silver with age-old Wölting the second and the fire truck Oberweißburg from St. Michael took fourth place.

qualification for the parallel competition

Particularly noteworthy: Two groups from the Lungau district - the fire brigade Mariapfarr and St. Michael 1 - qualified for the final parallel competition. The latter placed high demands on the participants, since a time under 50 seconds in the extinguishing attack was a prerequisite for participation. The evaluators ensured a fair evaluation and were also allowed to receive some awards at an additional evaluator evening. These honest achievements were recognized by the State Fire Brigade Association and the Lungau district fire brigade association with thanks and recognition.

Another aspect that should not go unmentioned is the general situation of the fire brigades in Austria. In 2023, around 353,798 members worked in the fire brigades, which means an increase of 3,515 compared to 2022. The increase in the proportion of women, which is 33,629, is particularly gratifying - that is now 9.5 % of the overall team. In view of the different challenges that arise from weather extreme and increasing number of operations, the need for innovations and sustainable financing is essential.

  • missions 2023: 278.495 (212.141 Technical, 66,354 fire operations)
  • increase in operations compared to 2022: +34,000
  • Severe weather operations 2023: 57.527
  • saved people: 9,354, saved animals: 7.010

With such a committed community and the tireless commitment of the volunteer firefighters, it will be interesting to see what the next event will bring. It becomes clear that the fire brigades of our region beat a strong heart that will continue to burn for security and assistance in the future.
