Waiting as art: Festival inspires to pause in Steyr!

In a time when everything appears fast -moving, a unique art project invites you to look at the waiting again. From June 27 to July 5, 2025, the event "Essentially: Wait." in Steyr and St. Valentin. This project, which was designed by the artists Moritz Müller, consisting of Konstanze Müller from St. Pölten and Andreas Moritz from Steyr, addresses the waiting in its different facets and invites the audience to pause and take a different perspective. In our hectic world, waiting is often a nuisance, but here it is raised to an art form. Meinbezirk reports that the presentation will take place on June 28 and 29, 2025 in and before the historical "fishing shell".

One of the highlights is a 24-hour video installation that visualizes the waiting in real time. In addition, a performance entitled "π in the sky" will cause a stir. This art campaign is supplemented by miniature interventions that are intended to encourage typical “waiting resorts” such as train stations and city centers. The connection between Steyr and St. Valentin is particularly emphasized by their train stations, which are viewed as central encounter areas. The quarterfestival this year focuses on the social encounters in city centers and offers a platform for artistic arguments with the zeitgeist.

In St. Valentin, the project will take place at the train station from June 27th to 29th and July 4th and 5th, 2025. During this time, visitors are confronted with a wide variety of interactive formats and sound installations that aim to raise awareness of "waiting". Particularly noteworthy is the interactive performance, which works with an elevator as a time machine and a rotating disc - two exciting aspects that focus on the perception of time. art in public space illuminated how the use of art in urban space can also act as a social link.

For the program details in Steyr, Daniela Zeiner from inner city management has already announced fixed dates. On June 28, the art project from 10 a.m. to midnight is accessible, with an intervention at 10 a.m. and a performance at 8 p.m. The following day, the exhibition opens from 00:00 to 5 p.m. with another intervention at 10 a.m. and a performance at 3 p.m. In St. Valentin, the opening times are as follows:

  • 27. June: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • 28. June: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • 29. June: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • 4. July: 10 a.m. to midnight
  • 5. July: 00:00 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The artistic interventions and installations not only stand for a reflection on waiting, but also address vacancies in the city.
