Friendships in the emergency services: This is how life combines in Grieskirchen!

Eferding, Österreich - On July 30th, the World Friends Day will be celebrated - an occasion to remember the numerous friendships that often begin in surprising moments. In the Grieskirchen district, the Red Cross exemplifies for such encounters that go beyond the purely professional cooperation. It is a place where colleagues finally become friends. A look at the friendships created as part of the Red Cross shows how tight and valuable these connections are.

Magdalena Atzmüller, 25, and Liselotte Bruckner, 34, are two outstanding examples. Four years ago, the two found each other at the Red Cross in Grieskirchen. "We work together regularly and have already completed a few night services together," explains Atzmüller. While the young woman works in the emergency services, Bruckner was previously handlebar and has now also worked into the volunteer coordination. Both are convinced: "The regular meetings and the common service strengthen our cooperation, especially in stressful situations."

special encounters in community service

Another example of this special kind of friendship provides Ben Sallaberger (21) and Armin Ammerstorfer (20), who met in 2023 during their civilian service in Eferding. Spend around 75 % of your services side by side. "We support each other and help each other when the pressure increases," says Ammerstorfer. This partnership in service is not only practical, but also happens in an atmosphere of trust and support.

Community service at the Red Cross offers many opportunities for personal and professional developments. As the Red Cross Austria shows on its side, it is about making a valuable contribution to health and social affairs and learning useful skills- be it as a paramedic or through various first aid courses. The interpersonal contacts that can be made are also priceless. In every federal state there are Rotkreuz locations where interested parties can do their civilian service and represent the same humanitarian values.

a look ahead

As part of an Interreg project, the Red Cross has also produced a new video that presents regional excursion destinations in the Innviertel. This also focuses on the region that has so much to offer. The combination of friendships and volunteer work as well as the opportunity to help people in need make the Red Cross particularly attractive as a platform.

The stories of Atzmüller, Bruckner, Sallaberger and Ammerstorfer are exemplary for what happens to the Red Cross in Grieskirchen and Eferding. It is not just work colleagues who meet here - they are people who make friendships while helping others in difficult times. With its commitment, the Red Cross not only creates the opportunity to gain valuable experience for the future, but also promote deeper human relationships.

For all those who are already at the Red Cross or think about doing their civilian service there, this World Friends Day could be a nice occasion to celebrate the special connections that can be made.
