New fire brigade security center: Waidhofen merged and builds!
In Waidhofen an der Ybbs there is exciting news for the fire brigade and the security of the community. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) has announced an important funding commitment for a new security center in the city. Among other things, city boss Werner Krammer, Vice Mayor Mario Wührer and the commanders of the two fire brigades, Michael Höritzauer (Waidhofen) and Ulrich Kromoser (Zell) were present at the announcement. This paves the way for the planned merger of the two fire brigades.
The idea for the merger was taken up in 2021 after a first vote in 2016 had negative. In the future there will be five fire departments in Waidhofen instead of the previous six, including the Bene company fire brigade. This is an important step to improve the efficiency and reactionability of the emergency services.
New home for the fire brigades
The new construction of the security center is planned on the Steinauer meadow in the Kreilhof business park, away from the city center. The current fire station no longer meets the modern requirements and also suffer from lack of space. Emergency vehicles often have to be parked outside of the tools, which affects the operational readiness. This will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the upcoming construction of the new fire station, which will offer contemporary equipment.
Another fire engine building will be built for the Wirts volunteer fire brigade, for which a plot of 2955 square meters has already been secured, near the currently used area in Weyrerstrasse. The fire brigades city and hosts will be working together more intensively and alarmed in the future.
common responsibility for security
Security in the community is an essential municipal task for Mayor Werner Krammer. "We have to do everything we can to ensure that our emergency services are optimally equipped," said the city manager. Talks with the state of Lower Austria have already led to a promise for the two new fire brigade buildings. The country has recognized the need, because the current fire brigade houses are indeed out of date and no longer correspond to the modern standards.
The construction start for the new security center is scheduled for 2026, and the final decision of the local council is expected to be made at the end of July 2023. After this decision, the tenders for construction can be made. The fire brigades plan to actively participate in the construction of the project through their own work in order to keep the costs.
A city building yard and a waste collection center are also planned in the vicinity of the new fire brigade center, which represents a further improvement in the infrastructure in Waidhofen. Together with the new fire brigade buildings, a multifunctional security center will be created that significantly strengthens the skills of the fire brigade and offers added value for the entire community.
With these steps, not only the fire service is significantly increased, but also the cooperation between all participants is consolidated. A good hand, as Mayor Krammer put it, will be decisive in the coming years to ensure the security of all Waidhofner.
