Strong women in the Oberpullendorf district: workshop for political visibility

Oberpullendorf, Österreich - in the Oberpullendorf district recently the workshop "visible. took place, which was organized by the SPÖ women Burgenland, the Renner Institute and the Community Association. The aim was to strengthen committed women from the region in their political expression. The workshop had important topics such as rhetorical appearance, political effects and strategic networks on the agenda. The trainer Natascha Thurner, Vice Mayor of Kobersdorf, directed the event, which aimed at mutual motivation and empowerment. Participants such as Tamara Leopold, Barbara Landauer, Manuela Schönauer and Andrea Baric had the opportunity to exchange their experiences.

"Especially today we need visibility for women in politics," emphasized district women's chairman Sandra Gerdenitsch. The State Women's Chairman Astrid Eisenkopf also emphasized the importance of structures that support women in the political landscape. "The workshop is a clear signal and shows that we want to become politically active," she added. This event is particularly relevant because women are still underrepresented in politics. According to the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, women provide more than half of the population, but they are often in the minority in parliaments. For example, the proportion of women in the German Bundestag in March 2025 was only 32.4 %.

empowerment for politicians

The workshop in Oberpullendorf falls into a larger context of initiatives that aim to specifically support women in politics. For example, Sarah Sorge offers numerous women's empowerment workshops to promote a sensitive view of the gender-typical challenges. These workshops show women how they can deal with power games and how they define their own attitude and goals. In this context, it is important that, for example, tip and tricks are conveyed to perceive the "posing" as part of the political competence, as described in GAK Hessen.

There is further attention on the obstacles that women face in politics. This includes not only the compatibility of family and work, but also a male -dominated political culture. According to a study, almost 40 % of politicians report sexual harassment in the political environment. It is even 60 %for younger politicians under the age of 45.

The way forward

The need for such workshops is also reflected in the project "Women. Diversity. Politics. Democracy Design on site", which was launched on December 1, 2024. The aim is to increase the proportion of women in politics and to promote equality. Measures such as mentoring programs and targeted speech of rural spaces should help women to find their way better in the political landscape.

The workshop "Visible. Handers. Effective." Is a small but important step in the right direction. The participants reported a new energy and motivation, which shows that the joint support of women in politics is not only necessary, but also possible. Despite the challenges that exist in the political arena, the spirit of the empowerment and the determination of increasing the visibility of women in politics
