Wiedner District Representation: Future of OperaGasse and Resselpark in focus!

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the district council of Wieden met in the ballroom of the Amtshaus to discuss various explosive topics. The district leader Lea Halb -Widl from the SPÖ opened the meeting and kept the people present on the progress of the construction sites in the district. The focus was particularly on the new toilet facility in the Resselpark, the completion of which is eagerly awaited. Another important topic was the redesign of the Opererngasse, which is still causing discussions.

A joint application by the SPÖ and the Greens to examine a cross -district project in Opererngasse was accepted, although he met with resistance from ÖVP and FPÖ. There are currently three lanes and two parking traces for cars in Opererngasse, which makes the noisy draft traffic to burden the residents: inside. The desire for speed reduction at 30 km / h has been blocked for a long time and has so far been blocked by the SPÖ city government. At an upcoming event on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the Café Nest, the opportunity will offer your own suggestions for the design of OperaGasse.

tree potential and active park

In addition to Opererngasse, positive developments in the area of the environment were also addressed. The Greens applied for a tree potential analysis that was unanimously accepted. This could help plan future reforestation projects and increase the green share in the district. There was also discussion at Karlsplatz, whereby an application from the SPÖ was accepted to test an active park in order to make the space for the population more attractive.

Another application by the Greens to check the air quality in the Grätzl was also approved. These measures should not only improve the quality of life in the district, but also make a specific contribution to environmental protection. But not all the suggestions were heard: ÖVP club chairman Johannes Pasquali called for video surveillance on Karlsplatz, but his application for resolution was rejected.

bike situation in front of the Evangelical School

Last but not least, a multi-party application from the NEOS, SPÖ and links to improve the bicycle situation in front of the Evangelical School on Karlsplatz was accepted. The suggestions include moving the bike path to Resselgasse in order to defuse the entire traffic situation and the safety of cyclists: to increase inside.

The past session has shown that there is a lot of movement in Wieden. With the upcoming measures, not only the quality of stay is to be improved, but also a future -oriented urban development. The population is called to actively contribute their opinions and ideas to work together on a lively and sustainable neighborhood.
