City tour on the Wieden: Discover the pioneers and their stories!

Wiedner Gürtel 68, 1040 Wien, Österreich - June 13th is just around the corner and promises to become a very special day for the Wieden. On this Friday the Women*Walk to get to know important female personalities in the area. The walk starts at 6 p.m. at Wiedner Gürtel 68 and is led by Petra Unger, who reports with great enthusiasm for the biographies of important women in the district.

One of the highlights of the evening is Rosa Mayreder, an outstanding writer, feminist and one of the pioneers of the first Austrian women's movement. This event is not only a tour, but also a tribute to the commitment of women such as Mayreder who have left a lasting impression in Wieden.

The walk comprises several stations and ends in the studio of the artist Xenia Hausner in the Alpine milk center. In order to give the evening a special note, the dance group "Salon Emmer" accompanies the lead with impressive dance performances to the personalities presented. With a final dance at 7 p.m., which is open to all visitors, regardless of registration, the evening is ceremoniously rounded off.

The social commitment of women

The Wieden is full of committed women who make a significant contribution to making the district worth living. The Women's Prize "Wiedner Rosa" Each award is endowed with 1,000 euros and is awarded in the categories "culture", "science", "social" and "civil society and neighborhood". An independent women's jury selects the award winners.

On December 2, 2024, three women have already been honored for their remarkable efforts: Denise Eichholzer, who is committed to the district and the protection of women, Elke Simon, who, as head of the Wieden library, created a lively meeting point, as well as Gabriele Gottwald-Nathaniel, the founder of Gabarage Upcycling, who has been doing sustainability and social cohesion for many years.

The honors are not only a symbol of thanks for the commitment, but also a memory of how important the voices and deeds of women are in society. If the weather should not play along, the walk is postponed to June 26th at 6 p.m. to give everyone interested the opportunity to hear and experience these important stories.
