Green oasis for Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus: Neuer Park opened!
On July 19, 2025, the new park "Auf der Schmelz" in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district was ceremoniously opened. The advantageous location and the spacious area of 2,320 m² offer the residents a fresh oasis in the city. At the opening, Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky and district manager Dietmar BauRecht was waiting for numerous interested visitors.
The park is not only a green retreat, but also a place for movement and community. A total of 30 new trees were planted, and the green areas were equipped with over 600 m² bushes, 611 m² small shrubs, 547 m² lawn and 165 m² grass and perennial beds. At the same time, a new sitting grandstand and bank table combinations enable relaxed hours outdoors.
a place for all generations
The multifunctional system offers something for every age group. Five fitness and calisthenics devices as well as movement offers such as stretching rods, bars and leg press can be used by both boys and older activists. In addition, a drinking fountain with a watercourse welcomes cooling on hot summer days.
The planners have placed great importance on the design of the paths. These are equipped with light plasters and offer barrier -free access so that all residents can easily reach the park. Good lighting along the main paths also ensures security in the evening.
sustainable city nature
The creation of the new park is part of a larger plan. Vienna pursues the goal of sustainably promoting recreation rooms and ecosystems with various strategies, such as the Vienna Forest and Wiesen Charter and the Smart Klima City strategy. Measures to renaturate and improve the quality of life in the city have been going on for years, and the city has created over 511,000 m² of new and redesigned parks from 2020 to 2024, in which 22,693 trees were planted ([wien.gv.at] (https://www.wien.gv.at/spezial/klimaflimplan-monitoring/klimaan adaptation/okosysteme-natur-und-erholungsraume/)).
There is also special attention to citizen participation: the Viennese had the opportunity to contribute their ideas and suggestions in the planning phases of the park, which further increases the acceptance and use of the new green spaces.
Overall, the park "Auf der Schmelz" is not only a step towards more city nature, but also an important component in the city's climate support program. By 2025, the city will provide 20 million euros annually for climate adaptation measures (5min.at.
