Heldin from Ottakring: Ayten Pacariz changes the life of women!

Ottakring, Österreich - in the heart of Vienna, more precisely in Ottakring, a remarkable heroine has established herself: Ayten Pacariz. As an operational director of the association "The neighboring" she plays a crucial role in supporting women from other cultural groups. Her commitment was recently recognized by Meinverkärt, W24 and moderator Mel Merio, who appointed her to be heroine.

"The neighbors" have specialized in motivating women and helping them to recognize their opportunities in a new environment since their foundation. Pacariz explains how important it is to counter these women at eye level and to understand the challenges associated with adapting to the new life in Austria. A central concern is to get women out of isolation in order to offer support through personal visits to their home.

integration through personal encounters

With an approach that overcomes cultural barriers, the association "The Neighbors" shows women from Islamic cultures. Despite the resistances that often arise from patriarchal structures and often make men fear of the independence of their women, Pacariz and their team succeed in creating a trusting basis. Many women have fears of losing their culture or children when they integrate into the new society. This is where Pacariz comes in by conveying that women don't have to give anything to them.

ayten Pacariz, who has headed the project since 2014, has previously worked in the financial sector and was looking for a meaningful activity. The association was launched by the doctor Christine Scholten and social worker Renate Schnee to support isolated families in Vienna. The neighbors offer individual help and accompany families over a period of three to four months by regularly looking at space care and organization of visits to office as well as leisure activities.

The challenges of integration

an extensive report of the bamf shows that many of the challenges stand in front of which women are not only in Austria, but also are relevant in our neighboring country. Educational differences, lack of childcare and high demands on the recognition of qualifications are just a few of the stumbling blocks that are shown in the integration process. Integration is therefore a long -term process that requires individual solutions.

ayten pacariz aptly formulates: "Many fears are based on ignorance". It is therefore important to have contact persons who bring not only the national skills, but also the intercultural knowledge in order to pick up the families where they are. “The neighboring” has established themselves as a contact point that enables women to find their place in society without fear and with a completely new self -confidence.
