Magdas Hotel am Prater: A green project for social future!

In the heart of Vienna on the Prater, a new chapter in the area of sustainable urban development is opened. Magdas Hotel, a project by Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna, is expanding his offer with a second location that is to be opened in 2027. This project relies on a resource -saving renovation of an existing building from the 1970s instead of tearing it off. This not only receives the building fabric, but also an active contribution to climate protection, MeinDeitrzirk

The structural implementation of this socially oriented project will begin in June 2025. Alfons Fuchs, Managing Director of Magdas, emphasizes that not only the building itself receives a new destination, but also offered new professional perspectives with less access to the Hotel. "The new hotel will be a place that welcomes people from all over the world," says Fuchs.

sustainable construction and high standards

In the course of the renovation, the building structure of the building is retained, while other parts are completely gutted. With the help of environmentally friendly technologies, the hotel's energy supply is ensured: the heating and cooling are carried out by groundwater, and a photovoltaic system on the roof generates the required electricity. The goal is an annual CO₂ saving of around 372 tons, as can be seen from the reports of ots.

The renowned architecture firm Atelier is responsible for planning the hotel. The project was awarded the Climate Aktiv Gold Certificate in the planning phase, which meets the highest demands on energy efficiency, choice of materials and spatial health. From the 978 out of 1,000 possible points it becomes clear that the highest standards are observed in order to meet both the guests and the environment.

social responsibility and urban development

The concept of Magdas not only puts the ecological, but also social sustainability in the foreground. In times of growing urban life and the associated challenges, it is crucial that urban development projects not only take into account economic but also social issues. The UN forecasts show a clear trend: by 2050, up to 70% of the world's population will live in cities. Therefore, access to fundamental resources and quality of life is becoming increasingly important, as described in the analyzes for sustainable urban development.

With this initiative, Caritas ensures an example that shows how you can realize sustainable construction projects that are both ecologically and socially tolerated. Not only the location at the Prater is revitalized, but also an active contribution to improving living conditions in urban areas.

So it remains exciting how the conversion and opening of the hotel will develop - a new hot spot for tourists and local Alike could crystallize here. Vienna, ready for a green and social future!
