Vienna makes bus trips safer: New project starts in the inner city!
The Vienna Chamber of Commerce (WKW) has now launched a pilot project that is intended to significantly improve security for bus travelers in the inner city. As reports [meinzirk.at] (https://www.meinbezirk.at/inne-stadt/c-Wirtschaftskammer-will-busreiser-machen_a7373072), it is above all the problem that tourist buses often park in second or third row, which significantly impairs traffic safety. This new project, which will run by September 2025, aims to defuse these predicament.
There is good news for the Viennese bus companies: You can now use free-defined pull-up places at the Franz-Josefs-Kai and the ring tower. This offer is completely adopted by the WKW for the first 15 minutes, after which moderate costs of five euros per quarter of an hour are incurred. This free use can be used three times per bus and day of operation, which means a practical relief for the tourism industry.
advantages for all road users
What does this mean specifically for the security of the passengers? Ludwig Richard, chairman of the autobus company, explains the advantages: The flow of traffic will improve through the new system, which not only benefits the economy, but also the environment. Caltred traffic jams caused by rash parking campaigns are avoided, which increases the safety of passengers, because this is how the dangerous entry and exit in the lane is minimized. Buses are supposed to park on the pulling station and will only be ancestor when the tour group is available and there is space on the entry zone.
In addition to the WKW initiative, other traffic safety programs also contribute. The Vienna Education Directorate, for example, promotes extensive pedagogical measures that are intended to help children and adolescents to be safely traveling on road traffic. The program, supported by the Vienna State Police Directorate, addresses legal regulations and social aspects. As reported education-wien.gv.at, topics such as the safe crossing of streets or the voluntary cycling test are intended.
mobility in education
The promotion of traffic safety not only includes measures for adults, but also begins with the youngest at school. The concept of mobility education aims to sensitize pupils to traffic and to raise critical use of the effects of mobility on humans and the environment. The topic side of the environment in class makes it clear that educational institutions have a key function here. This is done, for example, through mobility -related projects in subject teaching or in other subjects such as geography and politics.
The interaction between the initiatives of the WKW and the educational programs shows how important it is to look at the security in traffic holistically. The WKW is all about improving the conditions for bus companies, while the educational directorate with targeted traffic education makes children and adolescents fit for the challenges in road traffic. In the end, all road users benefit from better well -thought -out mobility.
