Reading summer in Vienna: Children collect picker and adventure!

From tomorrow, on June 16, 2025, the highly expected summer reading club in Vienna will start reading children between six and 14 years since 2012. The campaign extends until September 12th and offers an exciting way to promote the reading of the reading. Numerous programs and a special picker booklet were launched.

The Pickerlheft, which the participants can pick up in all 37 libraries of the city free of charge, is entitled "Kims Reise". For example, over 1,500 children took part in this reading summer last year.

Participation is simple and free of charge for everyone under the age of 18. To take part in the summer reading club, all you need is a valid library card. After borrowing a book, a magazine, an audio book or a film, the participants have to fill out an evaluation sheet. There are three surprise pickers for each submitted evaluation, which can be collected in the picker booklet. This action motivates the children not only to read, but also to consciously deal with the media.

In addition, exchange exchanges take place in the libraries, in which the participants can exchange their picker to fill their booklet. At the end of the project, all hardworking readers receive a reading certificate that can be presented as proof of their extra -curricular reading engagement at school. This underlines the importance of reading for school and personal development, as well as Elisabeth Fuchs, the education director for Vienna, emphasizes: "Reading supports language skills and is an important prerequisite for critical and creative media use as well as social participation."
