Fast track lock in Vienna: All information about bus lines and timetable changes!

From tomorrow, June 29, 2025, ÖBB will result in considerable restrictions in public transport in Vienna and the surrounding area due to extensive modernization work. The express railway line between Floridsdorf and Praterstern will be closed until September 1st. This conversion is necessary to improve the infrastructure and increase security and capacity in the long term.

The transport association has already taken measures to best transport the majority of passengers over this time. There will be two special rail replacement bus lines: The Blue Bus Line (SV900) connects the Vienna Praterstern stops via Traisengasse to Floridsdorf, while the yellow direct bus line (SV905) offers a non-stop connection between Floridsdorf and Praterstern. These buses are in use every day to evening and are supported by large, colored soil and wall markings at the train stations to facilitate orientation. Details on the departure times can be called up in the Scotty Mobil-App, as the ÖBB in its construction site information announces.

effects on regional traffic

The construction work not only affects Vienna, but also several adjacent areas in Lower Austria. The S40 between Klosterneuburg-Weidling and St. Andrä-Wördern is also replaced by rail replacement traffic. The trains are completely canceled on the R40 (Vienna Franz Josefs Bahnhof-St. Andrä-Wördern) and some connections to the Rex4. Users of the REX41 line must adjust to changes to the timetable, as the ÖBB emphasizes.

In the coming months, extensive track construction projects are also planned in various parts of Vienna. For example, the tracks on Hütteldorfer Straße have already been replaced by regularly, which leads to improving the driving comfort. Restrictions in the U3 and line 49 are expected by the end of June 2025. The re -entry of line 49 in regular operation is scheduled for June 30, 2025, as the Vienna lines currently inform.

alternatives and ticket regulations

In order to cushion the consequences of the lock, the transport operators also made a regulation: ÖBB tickets are valid in certain sections of the subway and trams of the Viennese lines. This offers the commuters a welcome alternative to get to the city and their goals, while the construction work is in full swing. The alternative use of the U1, U2, U3 and U4 and various inner-city bus lines is recommended.

The lines of public transport is continuously monitored and adjusted by the Vienna lines. For example, the E4 tram line is used as a replacement connection between Friedensbrücke and Schottenring, while rushed track construction work in Landstraßer Hauptstraße will also have an impact on the timetable from March to early July and late August 2025. All current information can be found on the respective websites of the ÖBB and Wiener lines where the passengers can be kept up to date.

Overall, this summer is a phase of adaptation and improvement, which ultimately serves to make public transport in Vienna more efficient and safer. Even if the construction work temporarily involves inconvenience, those responsible expect a significantly better infrastructure after completion.
