Bregenz plans nude bathing zone: environmental activists raise the alarm!

Bregenz, Österreich - on Lake Constance could soon break up a new era of bathing nude bathing. In Bregenz, the city administration is planning to officially identify a section on the other lake bank as a nude pool area. This step aims to meet the needs of free body culture fans. The area has been used unofficially by supporters of the nudist culture for decades, reports Südkurier .

However, nude bathing in Vorarlberg is usually only allowed in special areas. The regulation usually applies to people over six years of age who have to wear clothes when bathing in public. In order not to affect nature conservation, a closer look at the area is necessary because it is located in a European protection area, which among other things grows the rare Bodensee Giss mein. The ban on entering for certain areas remains to protect the flora and fauna.

concerns of conservationists

The environmental organization "Alliance for Nature" expresses significant concerns about the new nude pool area. The representative Christian Schuhböck fears that the construction of infrastructure such as toilet or kiosks could attract a mass audience, which would have negative effects on the surrounding nature reserve. Therefore, the organization demands that these types of facilities are not built on the lake shore to limit the attractiveness for nude bathers, such as the Schwäbische Zeitung reported.

In order to give those affected a clear orientation, the city of Bregenz plans to differentiate the nude pool area with wooden posts and set up four signs. An assessment of the plans by the district administration of Bregenz has shown that the measures are considered a small intervention in the nature reserve and that the approval has already been granted.

The debate about nude bathing

nude bathing has a eventful history in many cultures and over the centuries. The roots go back to ancient times, where it was normal to show themselves naked in nature. A look at today's situation shows that nudism is increasingly popular, especially among families and young people. While nudist beaches have long been established in Germany, one seems to be more careful in Austria. So far there is only an official nudist bathing area in the nearby municipality of Hard, which, however, costs admission.

The city of Bregenz finally wants to vote on the introduction of the nude pool area on June 26th. In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether the supporters or the opponents will win the upper hand. The topic will surely continue to keep the minds of both the conservationist and the nude bathing trailer on Lake Constance.
