Tyrol's future: Gaming and eSport as tourism magnet for the youth!

In Tyrol, something is happening in the field of digitization and tourism. Today the state of Tyrol announced that it promotes an innovative lighthouse project in the amount of around 200,000 euros that deals intensively on gaming and eSports. This research project at the University of Innsbruck was created to take a closer look at the leisure and travel habits of the so-called generation of Alpha, which was born from 2010. The project is intended to develop fresh ideas for Tyrolean tourism and thus actively shape the future of the region. tirol.gv.at reports for this exciting project from business, Tourism and digitization State Councilor Mario Gerber.

The research project is carried out by a dedicated team under the direction of Elisabeth Happ and Felix Wachholz. Support also comes from Gregor Weihs, the Vice Rector for Research at the University of Innsbruck, who presents the project together with the researchers. For the examination, state-of-the-art technologies such as virtual reality glasses and high-end gaming PCs are used to obtain a comprehensive image of the interests and preferences of the young generation.

insights into the needs of the generation alpha

The starting signal for the project is on July 1, 2025, and it is designed for a term of two years. The results are not only made available to the tourism -related institutions, but should also offer data -based recommendations for action in order to increase the attractiveness of movement and sport and better respond to the needs of the young target groups. The project is supported by important actors such as Tyrol Werbung, the Mayrhofen tourism association and the ESPORT Verband Austria. These partnerships are crucial to promote a wide range of insights and to strengthen Tyrolean tourism.

But how does digitization work in tourism? Nowadays, the online booking process is becoming increasingly important for many young travelers. According to Statista already use over 50% of German online portals for your vacation bookings. Smartphones are essential; More than 90% of travelers have their device on hand to cover everything from navigation aids to social contacts.

The future of Tyrolean tourism

In the context of these developments, digitization has the potential to drastically change the approach to tourism. From self-check-in at airports to VR travel experiences and mobile payments-the industry is changing. With this research project, Tyrol takes an innovative step to create attractive offers for the young travelers of tomorrow who meet today's requirements.

The course is already set for the next few years: "There is something", one could say, because with a good hand, those responsible have the goal of positioning Tyrol as the leading destination for the alpha generation. It remains exciting how the results of the project develop and which new trends will emerge.
