Revolution in freight traffic: Siemens presents Vectron MS Lokomotive!
Innsbruck, Österreich - freight transport in Europe has made an important step forward with the presentation of the new Vectron MS locomotive from Siemens Mobility. This innovative locomotive, which is also referred to as "Ferrari of freight transport", facilitates cross -border rail traffic and combines Germany, Austria and Italy without a locomotive change on the Brenner. The Brenner Pass, one of the most important freight traffic routes across the Alps, remains optimally connected. The powerful locomotive has an impressive performance of 8700 PS and is designed for the "multi-system use", which means that it can be operated regardless of change or direct current. It is particularly interesting that the Vectron MS locomotives also have a comprehensive approval system. They are approved in a total of eleven European countries, including Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia . Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter emphasizes that the Brenner-Nordlauf plays a decisive role in efficiency in freight transport, especially with regard to the planned burner base tunnel, which is expected to go into operation in 2032.

Siemens has even more in store. In addition to the Vectron MS, an electric locomotive was also presented that drives without overhead line by using batteries. This locomotive can be charged on sub-line during the journey and thus represents a further progress in the area of environmentally friendly mobility. According to the company, Siemens has already sold two such electric locomotives and expects hundreds of orders in the future.
The first Vectron MS locomotive was founded at the Rail Traction Company (RTC) S.P.A. hand over. The overall package includes six locomotives : four for RTC and two for InRail s.p.A. These locomotives are used especially on the Italian corridor via the Brenner Pass in order to further promote and strengthen cross -border traffic.
