MINT initiatives in the Oberland: A model for Tyrol's education!

In the game of educational funding, the MINT-Oberland association is making great progress. This innovative sponsoring and support association was founded in 2021 and is committed to strengthening MINT training projects in the areas of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. In addition, a general assembly took place in Landeck Palace Palace, in which one looked back proudly on the achievements of the past year.

In 2024, the association invested a total of 330,000 euros in creative educational projects that became realities in the Tyrolean Oberland. The association operates on a voluntary basis and holds around 30 sessions a year. 800 to 1,000 hours of voluntary work flowed into the projects, led by chairman Philipp Machac, who was re -elected unanimously. The success balance sheet includes the MINT LAB in Landeck and a newly designed laboratory in Imst.

innovative projects and support

The "research corner" in kindergartens, such as in Kappl, Pettneu, Prutz and Zams, are also on the agenda, where young young researchers already take their first steps into the world of science. In addition, ten mobile MINT cases were handed over to the kindergartens in the Landeck district, which are specially designed for playful access on scientific topics. Minilabs have been set up in the elementary and middle schools of Fließ, Prutz, Pians, Kappl, Zams and Landeck, which encourage neighboring schools to actively promote MINT formation.

The projects receive support from leader funds, which indicates the important cooperation with public bodies. Nevertheless, you are not entirely satisfied with the financial backing of the MINT-Oberland. The association criticizes the public administration for the currently inadequate support in the field of education. 100,000 euros in funding for the districts of Landeck and Imst are not considered too little, and so the association addresses the appeals that have been urgent on politics, the commitment of the volunteers in the educational sector.

political support and recognition

The association's projects were made by Dr. Claudio Landerer recognized from the educational directorate, who praised her as a model for further MINT initiatives in Tyrol. The success of these initiatives depends largely on committed teachers. Philipp Machac emphasizes the importance of idealists and motivated teachers without whom these projects would not be progressed.

The MINT funding not only gains importance in Tyrol, but is also part of a nationwide MINT action plan that was initiated by the ministries. This plan pursues numerous goals, including securing skilled workers and creating participation of participation for everyone. In addition to initiatives such as the MINT regions and the MINT cluster, cooperations between schools and extra-curricular educational offers are also of great relevance.

The overall concept shows how important it is to bring children and adolescents closer to the fascination for MINT disciplines. This also includes special programs in order to make it easier for girls to make participation in MINT professions easier and to promote, such as the "Come, Make Mint" and the "Girls' Day" initiative to lighten the image of MINT courses.

The committed members of MINT-Oberland make a strong commitment to sustainable support for the MINT formation-a concern that is of enormous importance in today's digital and technology-driven world.
